Odd Future to Start Independent Record Label Through Sony

After skyrocketing into popularity, Los Angeles hip hop collective Odd Future watched as multiple record companies fought to sign the group first. Perhaps the most appealing artists out right now, OFWGKTA has made it this far without help from any record labels. Until now. Although nothing is final,  the group's manager Christian Clancy confirmed that there is a deal in the works with Sony. He went on to explain that OFWGKTA would have 100% creative control through the deal and much more. Hit the jump for the entire statement from the OF manger.

"It’s based on getting the distribution deal we’ve always envisioned that allows the group to “sign  themselves” to their own company and keep their masters. They will have 100% creative control of all aspects of their music, art, and release schedule with no 3rd party participation in outside business. Freedom and ownership was the whole point. Red and Sony know that its in everyone’s best interest to maintain the group’s authenticity and control. They built it, they deserve it. There’s no cheesy hooks or fluorescent liquor product placements in the works..  It’s about to be fun.. and different." -Christian Clancy
