Alvie the Skywalker - "Yern" (Video)
First single off of MC/producer Alvie the Skywalker's upcoming solo release Wednesday 89. He's a first timer to the KWT rotation, so check him out, and leave a comment.
GhostWridah - "1995" (Freestyle)
I'm not a freestyle guy, but Ghost is too dope. Inspired by the Big L/Jay-Z freestyle of '95, Ghost goes in over the beat.

Ray Dawn - "Fill Banks"
Ray Dawn, who we found out about due to his affiliation with GhostWridah, arrives with the first leak off his upcoming Passport Dreams EP. Produced by SMKA, this shit sounds dope. Guy reps the 'Burgh, and flows tight as he pays tribute to Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince.

Verse of the Day: Action Bronson - "Choices"
This is an Asher Roth song featuring Action Bronson. I don't really listen to Action Bronson.
If you would be so gracious as to follow me under the jump, you'll find the verse, and discussion. If you can't follow me because you're thrown off by how blue Bronson's eyes look in that picture, I'll completely understand.

Azad Right - "Growing Apart" (feat. AHE & Jhené Aiko)
The dude Azad Right comes through with a brand new track that samples Kendrick Lamar and Jhené Aiko's track of the same name. Below is a photo of the California emcee from his January 6th performance, where he opened up for KWT favorites Phonte and 9th Wonder.
Previous: Azad Right - "The Fire" (Video)
Lil Wayne - "Mirror" (feat. Bruno Mars) [Video]
It's a snow day bitchessss, and by that I mean it's a raging blizzard and going outside is dangerous. Regardless of that, Tha Carter IV gets another visual. Not sure I like the song but the video is kinda cool, and apparently directed by the guy that did Training Day. I'm gonna layer pairs of pants and brave the storm to take videos, but you should definitely watch this. Last day of January at Kids Wasting Time, *sheds a tear*.
As it's the last of January, leave a comment, we'd love to hear from you. Also, shout out to KWTers in Russia, China, New Zealand, Ireland, Netherlands, Britain, France and many more countries! We love our international family!
LeBron or Blake?
These are absolutely filthy. Like downright disgusting, borderline illegal, potentially NSFW. But, whose was better? Who you got? Two front-runners for Dunk of the Year, both videos from every angle after the jump. Let us know in the comments.
WZRD - "Teleport 2 Me, Jamie" (feat. Desire)
With he and Dot Da Genius's WZRD being pushed back to February 28th, Cudi promised us a trio of tracks would be released today, the original release date of the album. The duo delivers on one of three with the highly anticipated "Teleport 2 Me, Jamie," of which we heard a snippet long ago. Cudder's been on his super weird shit recently, so it's great to hear him back on his semi-old-sound. We're still definitely hoping to get the other two official track releases from WZRD in "Brake" and an all-time KWT favorite "Dose Of Dopeness." Just check the sidebar. While I was never feeling WZRD in the past based on previous releases and the whole concept of Scotty going all alternative-rock on us, "Teleport 2 Me, Jamie" definitely has me thinking more optimistically toward February 28th.

Drake Will Not Respond To Common, Reports
And that's that. Damn, I got into this argument the other day and was firmly on the side he would respond. I do completely agree with what he's saying, however.
From nahright.com, Drake and nation talked on the set of "The Zone" about the diss, the Vanessa line, and more. Definitely check that out. The lines in question, below.
From nahright.com, Drake and nation talked on the set of "The Zone" about the diss, the Vanessa line, and more. Definitely check that out. The lines in question, below.
So people want to know: will you respond to Common?
No. Because despite how it’s been worded by him that situation is not a “hip hop moment” or a “battle for the sake of musical integrity”…it’s a ploy for attention around the release of an album. More than anything it was just disappointing cause what kid isn’t a fan of what Common has done for our genre. A guy who made such an incredible career for himself based off expressing genuine feelings about life and love is now targeting me for sharing my story.
Verse of the Day: GhostWridah - "So Alive"
Can I still call it "Verse of the Day" if I miss days? Such a deep, philosophically troubling question. Either way, we're back with more.
After the jump, the verse, words about said verse, and heavily doctored, in no way genuine footage of the Cory Gunz-loaded gun situation.

Dom Kennedy to Release Yellow Album Soon?
Following up nicely on one of the dopest projects of 2011 would prove to be a difficult task for many artists, but the Leimert Park Legend is diving head first into his follow-up to last year's From The Westside With Love II. Although no official single, release date, artwork or anything has dropped, DOPEITSDOM's been hinting at a new project on Twitter for a while now, culminating with the tweet seen below. I know it's a little late, I know we should've covered it earlier, but Dom Kennedy is prepping his next project, Yellow Album, to be released "soon." Take this with a grain of salt, because soon could mean anything from 3 weeks to 8 months, but regardless, we excited.
The 2 Of Diamonds - #30for30 (Mixtape)
If you were around these parts at all during the month of December, then you're probably familiar with The 2 Of Diamonds's recent endeavor. The Chicago duo released a track every day for the entire month of December, dubbing it their #30for30 series in a move that most artists could never pull off. Now, just in case you were absent or you prefer it in mixtape form, the twosome unleashes all 30 joints in one download.

"Malice found religion..."
After the break, you'll find the verse, and literally not a single sentence about Wendy's new unlimited Frosty offer.
Jimmy Astro - "King Jimmy" (prod. Reese Jones)
Sticking to the original script Jimmy goes in over one of his favorite producers Reese Jone's synth-ed out beat. Had a talk with Jimmy last night, he let me know that he's got some new stuff (experimental flows) that is probably going to blow us away. Needless to say... We are excited for what's to come.

XV - "Batteries" (feat. Trae The Truth) [Video]
The sure to be XXL 2012 Freshmen (y'all missed him two years running) drops a visual to his Trae The Truth assisted loosie we received a few months back. New project from Vizzy on the way.
Russ - Apollo 13 (Album)
I know, I know, Russ isn't the most exciting rap name but FUCK give this a listen. It's the weirdest, coolest, most innovative new tape you'll hear today. The production is sick, and he's got flows for days. It's only eight tracks (with weird names like Castles, Space, Window, 15 areA) so it's not a huge commitment. Give it a try, for serious. It sounds like the cover art.
Russ is apparently a member of DIEMON, some mysterious, quasi-cult that just so happens to be a sick rap group. I don't know much about them, but I have a feeling we'll all be writing think-pieces about them by the end of the year.

Verse of the Day: Lil Wayne - "That Ain't Me"
Weezy still gets the semi side eye for Tha Carter IV, but I'd be receptive to a No Ceilings 2.
After the jump, the verse, and an artist's rendition of God eating Garfield eating lasagna.
John Legend - "Tonight (Best You Ever Had)" [feat. Ludacris]
John Legend has always been one of my all-time favorite artists, with his 2004 effort Get Lifted being one of my greatest hits ever. It's been awhile since we've been given anything new from the Ohio crooner, but today Mr. Stephens lets us in on his and Luda's track that will soon appear on Think Like A Man's soundtrack as well as his fourth album, which is in the works now. I could definitely do without the Ludacris verse (sorry, bro), but I've always been a sucker for smooth, soulful John Legend tracks like this one. Available through iTunes on January 31st, but until then, stream only.
Emilio Rojas - Breaking Point (Artwork)
This forthcoming project's been buzzing for what seems like an eternity, and Emilio finally gives us some insight into his DJ Green Lantern and BBC presented mixtape by letting loose of the artwork. Dropping at 2pm tomorrow, Breaking Point will be sure to crack the 2012 year end round up when 2013 strikes.
Gilbere Forte - YOTD (Year of the Dragon) [Mixtape]
I always forget to keep up on Gilbere, who sold me on his music and his vision with '87 Dreams. I used to play that tape endlessly, and it was always impressive to see how polished he was for it being his project. He's back again, this time with YOTD, (shouts out to Chinese KWTers). I haven't DLed yet, I'm downloading as we speak, but I'll happily vouch for dude. If you end up giving it a listen, let us know what you think. Rap on the Hot 100: The Throne, Tyga, Drizzy, more
Almost every week, I make it a routine to head over to Billboard.com, and see which songs have made it out of our little world of blogs and Hulkshare links, to the exclusive radio playlists. It's always interesting; you can track trends, see who's hot out in the real world, see what newcomers are breaking through, etc. For those of you who love Kids Wasting Time (who doesn't?) and can't be bothered to make the long trek over to the icky, mainstream Billboard.com, I've got you. Good or bad, every week we're gonna look at the top 10 rap hits on the Billboard Hot 100. Trust me, you're gonna enjoy yourself. This week, The Throne holds it down, but the Young Money dynasty isn't far behind.

Verse of the Day: Birdman - "Y. U. Mad"
Birdman would be so honored to be our verse of the day, he'd probably get it tatted on his head. Wayne's magic trick is better than any shots of Cash Money's head ogre.
Hit the jump for ze verse, and detailed analysis of this lyrical gem.

Must Download: Rittz - White Jesus (Mixtape)
I was snooping the most exclusive, hipster "Best of 2011" lists, and couldn't help but notice White Jesus was a popular pick. It was one of those projects micro-bloggers favorite, and choose to peddle all year. It may not have worked on the masses, but I finally broke down and gave it a listen, and I'm glad I did.
On principle, I don't like fast rappers, and I don't listen to Yelawolf. But there I was, listening to a Yelawolf crony spit it as fast as he possibly could, and fuck it sounds good. He fires off over incredible deep-fried bangers supplied by DJ Burn One, and is buoyed by guest appearances from the likes of Yela and Big K.R.I.T. Unlike a lot of rappers with machine-gun flows who hide a lack of content behind blurring speed, Rittz is also a great writer. You see this when breaks down love he's lost, the financial problems associated with being a 30-year rapper, self-doubt and more. Bump it in the whip, and when the bass starts thumping, and Rittz funky delivery is filling your ears, you'll be glad you copped it.

The Last Word: Discussing Take Care
If you're just starting your review for Take Care in 2012, kill yourself. Maybe it's a bit harsh, but I'd say that pretty excellently encapsulates the incessant speed of the blogosphere. Either way, I don't really care. The feel you have for an album on your first listen, compared to your second listen, third listen and hundred-and-eleventh listen are completely different. And I could never really sit down and give this album a write-up with a neat little score out of 10 at the end. Somewhere along the way, this became less of an album, and more of a sonic journey, perfectly capturing the emotions of what have been a rather tumultuous last few months.
I don't really want to go into it, because this isn't a pity party and I'm sure most of you could easily one-up me with your problems. Either way, I'm living out a very strange transition period in my life. Homesickness, doubt, love lost, new challenges. I think it's a definitive stage, and one with long term repercussions. We'll leave it at that. In essence, Drake's Take Care has become the soundtrack.

KWT Introduces Chaz Kangas
This is like an mp3 post, but it's also an album post, but there's a Youtube link too, and more sentences than usual. Which is why Chaz Kangas, an MC from New York by way of Minneapolis, is receiving the very regal post title seen above. Let that boy cook! He's a white dude, kinda looks like some actor out of some movie AND is a world record holder for "longest group freestyle" which lasted 28 hours. That's your inaugural "Chaz Kangas Freakishly Fun Fact". FURTHERMORE, he sent us a very nice email, as in it wasn't from his cousin pretending to be a PR agency, it wasn't clearly one-step removed from a "Dear Whom-it-may-concern" email, it wasn't a bunch of bullshit, it wasn't formatted weirdly, and it didn't have excessive signatures. /rant. Also, to top it off, he's dope on the mic.

*Were blog money jokes every funny? If so, when did they become unfunny, cliche, and annoying?
The song I'm posting features KWT favey Homebody Sandman kicking it off, funny insights from Mr. Kangas, and enough flow to go around. I quite enjoyed it. I even put it up on KWT's Hulkshare page (evidence I liked it). Plus, he's on a song with Childish Gambino, and he has an album you can grab here, featuring Mac Lethal and others. Do check it all out. In the meantime, I'm going to go shit out some caviar into my gold-plated toilet*.

Gucci Mane - "Trap Back"
I know this doesn't, and never will fit the KWT mold, but I am an unabashed Brick Squad fan. And let me be the first to yell, at the top of his lungs, "GUUUUUUCCIIII BACK". I'll probably follow that up with a "BURR" or two. We'll see if/when I get up. I just had a home-cooked meal for the first time in a while, and I'm feeling unhealthily full.
This is beautiful. This is what the beginning of a Gucci Mane comeback sounds like, so my fingers are firmly crossed for the rest of the tape to sound this good. Remember back then, before putting Nicki Minaj or J. Cole on your remix was a good look, when Gucci was that dude? When the media wanted us to take Gucci as the next Wayne? I pray everyday those days will return. Either way, this is dope. This is Gucci back on his Mr. Zone 6 shit.

BJ The Chicago Kid - "His Pain" (feat. Kendrick Lamar)
I've always said that if I were a rapper (don't laugh) and needed a hook sang, BJ would be my go-to-guy. His appearances on others' mixtapes/albums always seem to be the standouts to me (see Pac Div's "Show You" and TiRon & Ayomari's "Her Theme Song"), but now the Chicago crooner is preparing Pineapple Now-Laters, a project of his own. To be released this Valentine's Day, BJ let loose of the project's second single which features fellow "Kush & Corinthians" (there's another) collaborator Kendrick Lamar. As always, he keeps it smooth and soulful with this one thanks to a piano heavy backdrop from Sounwave.
